Mathematics
Yearly Goal: To understand mathematical concepts, and being successful in applying them.
Quarter 2
In maths this quarters we learned once again about trigonometry, however this time started learning about how to apply trigonometry in all four quadrants, and what equations are necessary in order to carry out certain functions. We also learned somewhat about new mathematic concepts, such as new cosine, sine, and tangent formulas. While at the same time we also reviewed a bit about logarithms in the Semester Exam.

Tide Modeling Investigation
My chosen work for this quarter in maths is the investigation I conducted about Tide Modeling. In this assignment we were assigned to work on our laptops, and use the application of Graphmatica, to find the solution to the a tide modeling problem related to trigonometry. The problem wasn't as easy as it seemed to be, and was quite confusing and difficult at certain times, justification of certain answers became difficult. The reason why I chose this as my best sample of work, was because of the uniqueness this test was carried out, which was to be able to do it on a computer, which is very rarely done when doing a test in maths. This is actually for the first time we did a math test on a computer. I also chose this as my best sample of work because I was able to use the function in the mathematical problem effectively, and understood how it all work, being able to use the Graphmatica software with ease. This allowed me to understand how to conduct certain parts of the test, though it was still difficult since the problem was unfamiliar, and difficult to understand in certain parts.
The assignment was based on Criteria's B, C, and D, which focus on our Investigating Patterns, Communications in Maths, and our ability to apply the problem in real life. I was able to conduct the Criteria's well, though I sometimes found difficulty in investigating the patterns, as well as communicating the problem using mathematical language. This made it difficult for me to often understand what the problem was about, as well as how to justify certain results using proving methods in maths. Therefore I would like to improve the way I communicate using maths, as well as the way I conduct mathematical investigations next time, by regularly doing math problems at home, as well as research about certain math topics. This would help me to increase my understanding of the topic, and gives me the ability to justify it more effectively, as I would know how to carry out the certain problem, and makes me more familiar to the situation in maths. This is essential for me as well, as maths has never actually been a field I have been good in, and often face problems in understanding how its done, as well as the logic in its concepts. By being able to achieve these goals, I hope to increase my understanding of this topic, in order to obtain higher and better grades next time.
The key concept for maths this quarter is Relations. We increased and developed our understanding of this key concept this quarter, by finding the relation of the math problems with real life situations, which is Criteria D, being able to apply it. In maths as well we learn about relation each time when facing a certain problem, as we find what the relation of a certain letter in the alphabet is with a certain number, by applying formulas to figure out what the letter's value is. The most common way we conduct these mathematical relations are through understanding the formulas, and applying them. As the formulas relate the mathematical concepts, with problem, in helping us to find the solution. By doing so we increase our understanding of this key concept in maths.
