Civics
Yearly Goal: To improve the understanding how the Indonesian political system works, and how it is implemented on its people.
Quarter 1
This quarter in Civics we learned about different political methods on how countries are governed. We learned that there are two main type of systems countries are usually governed, and that is in the form of a state, or a nation. The countries population, and origins usually decide whether it is one of the two, or sometimes even both. We also learned about how a country could become a state, or a nation, and how its history and people are related to that. Throughout the quarter we didn't really have a lot of assignments. Pretty much only researched about the methods, and made an essay with the compiled information.

Indonesia Nation or State?
CHOSEN WORK
My chosen work for this quarter is the essay my friend and I have produced, which was to determine whether Indonesia is a nation or a state. Eventually though we both agreed that Indonesia, wasn't just a nation, or a state but rather both, because of the factors the country is governed and how it was formed. This makes this essay very interesting, and therefore I have chosen it as one of my best works from the quarter. I think the thing we did well in the essay, was that we understood most of the time what we were talking about, and were able to debate well whether Indonesia is a nation or state. The debates were proven very useful since it helped us to gain ideas, and write our essay swiftly. Despite our essay being interesting, and good, there are several reasons why we couldn't get the maximum mark for it.
IMPROVEMENTS
Several things that I would like to improve next time to get a higher mark for the essay is to work more independent. Though I was able to cooperate well with my friend in producing this essay, if we made the essay more independently, we would of gotten a higher mark since it was an individual work, not group work. If we would have known this we would have written two individual essays and probably get higher marks. Though I wouldn't like to terminate any cooperation with my friends, I would like to be more independent in writing essays so that it would be easier to check for the teacher, and to obtain higher marks.
KEY CONCEPT: SYSTEMS
In civics we have learned more about our key concept, by knowing how different government systems work. In particular knowing the difference of a state or nation system of governance. We learned that a countries origins and the people living in it usually determine what system of governance would be appropriate for them, and how that system of governance is more effective for them. We learned that different systems of governance affect how to country is governed, and that some factors of a country make one system more effective then the other. We learned that Indonesia is eventually a Nation, or Unitary State, because it's people decided to adopt that system to stay united, and prosper together. It is also a Nation or Unitary State because of the common struggle the Indonesian people shared during their struggle for independence from the Dutch and Japanese colonizers back in 1945.
