CAS Reflection
------------------------------------------------------------
On March 04 2013 almost turning 11 o'clock Grade 7 students, and teachers of Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH) arrived at Bali after a tiring trip. Most of them waking before 3 AM making them tired at Bali. But as soon as they were in Bali most of the students slept in the Bus on the way to their activities. The goal was not to sit around at the beach watching the beautiful sunset. No it was to help the community and learn about Bali's nature and environment.
One of the 3 things Grade 7 did in Bali was planting Cempaka trees. It was an easy task and most of the task was already completed before it passed 1 hour. What the objective was to plant a cempaka plant at near the road. Simple and easy for most of the students. putting the Cempaka in and then placing the soil in the hole with the Cempaka. What the thing that one of the students Darius didn't know was that the dirt was mixed with pig waste. And that surprised him a lot.
Another thing the students did in their CAS was planting mangrove, a very muddy dirty job. It seemed that not many students liked it because they all screamed: Ahh! Mud!!! Crab! (The Crab screaming did however panic more students). Easy as it seemed if you weren't scared. after the job was done 99% of the students were dirty and under the mud.
The big CAS was the beach cleaning, another simple job that took quite a long time. The students only needed a plastic sack and a stick that work as a type of pincher or grabber. Working all along the beach the students and teachers needed to pause 4 times because of the rainfall that morning when they cleaned the beach. After they cleaning the beach success and all other CAS activities the students had earned a swim at Jimbaran beach where they also released some baby turtles.
The students learned a lot from the CAS. They enjoyed it a lot and liked it too. But the most important is that they learned a lot of lessons in cooperation and respect.
